Ann Vastano

Ann was born in Bowmore on the Island of Islay in 1972, and brought up on Rothiemurchus Estate in the Highlands. She studied at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, and is now an exhibiting artist working from her studio at the High Range, Aviemore. She is driven to recreate those dramatic Highland scenes from her childhood, and is particularly captivated by the character filled bothies and cottages which lie strewn across the Highland park. For the past few years she has worked mainly in pastels and acrylic, with more recent work also incorporating paper collage. In some instances she has been inspired to make use of the written word in her artwork, adding another dimension to her creative process.
